Plane crashes in Davis field, pilot taken to hospital, authorities say
The pilot of a small plane was hospitalized after his aircraft crashed in a field south of the Davis airport Saturday morning, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m., according to Sgt. Matt Davis of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.
“It appears the pilot was attempting to take off from the Yolo County Airport,” Davis said. “He tried to land in a field, and the plane ended up upside-down.”
The pilot was the only occupant, Davis said. He has not yet been identified, and no further information about his condition or injuries was available.
Dispatchers said the plane crashed in an empty field owned by UC Davis near County Road 95 and County Road 31.
The Davis Fire Department tweeted that it assisted in the response involving one patient with “extended extrication.”
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, Davis said.
