If your engine is purring, you might want to double check for felines under the hood.

Firefighters with the Sacramento Fire Department discovered a kitten trapped in a Ford Fusion’s engine compartment Thursday at Arden Fair mall.

The Fusion had traveled from Salinas, near Monterey, all the way to Sacramento — nearly a three-hour drive.

Firefighters nicknamed the stowaway “Clutch,” and one is even considering adopting the kitten.

The cat was taken to the Front Street Animal Shelter, according to the department’s Facebook page.
