Racing in Thursday’s Run to Feed the Hungry in Sacramento? Here’s what you need to know
Sacramento’s 26th annual Run to Feed the Hungry will take place Thanksgiving morning in the streets of East Sacramento. Here’s everything you need to know.
What will the weather be like?
There is a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
What should I wear to run?
For running in the rain, experts recommend a tight-fitting bottom, such as leggings or spandex. They also recommend a good base layer, either long or short sleeve, made of merino wool, polyester or a nylon blend. Wear a water resistant or waterproof jacket or vest as the outer layer.
Is there still time to register?
Yes, people can register up until the race, though the price increases slightly. To register on race day, visit Fremont Presbyterian Church from 7 to 9 a.m. For registration information, click here. Proceeds benefit Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.
When do the races start?
The 10K begins at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K beings at 9 a.m. The 5K runners should stay off J Street until after all of the 10K runners pass the start banner.
Where should I park to participate?
Parking is available in and around Sacramento State, and also on residential streets between 56th and 58th streets and between M and H streets. Allow plenty of time for parking, and do not move garbage bins on residential streets. A parking map is available here. Free bike parking is also available.
Will garbage collection be affected for East Sacramento residents?
Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be delayed a day, to Friday, for a section of East Sacramento. For more information, click here.
What roads will be closed to drivers?
Sections of J Street, H Street, McKinley Boulevard and other streets will be closed to drivers until at least 11:45 a.m. For more information, visit this web page.
