Man rescued from Meadowview apartment fire dies at hospital, authorities say

A man found inside a Meadowview apartment that caught fire Thursday has died, fire officials said.

Sacramento firefighters removed the man from the “well involved” unit in the 2600 block of Meadowview Road fire around 11:30 a.m. The man, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries, said Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Capt. Keith Wade.

The fire, which was knocked down within minutes, ignited in an upstairs apartment at the four-unit building, Wade said. The fire remained contained to that unit, but some of the other units sustained smoke and water damage. No one else was injured, he said.

The cause of the fire was not known.
