Big rigs crash on northbound I-5 near Lodi. Here’s a detour and when it will reopen

Authorities have closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Lodi after two big rigs crashed Thursday, spilling building materials across the road.

The crash occurred shortly before noon on the freeway, just north of Peltier Road, the California Highway Patrol announced in a Facebook post.

It appeared that one of the big rigs rear-ended the other, said CHP Officer Ruben Jones. Bricks and cinder blocks fell off the big-rig with the flatbed trailer.

About 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Jones said one of the lanes had been reopened. He said removing the building materials is was prolonging the cleanup work at the crash site.

Officials said traffic is being re-routed to Highway 12 through Lodi, and it could take up to five hours to reopen all the northbound lanes. The CHP recommended that drivers avoid the area. No serious injuries had been reported.
