Paraglider crashes into power lines near Yuba County Airport, causing outages in area

A paraglider collided and got tangled up in power lines for Wednesday near the Yuba County Airport in Olivehurst, leaving him stuck for hours, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. near Sky Harbor Drive in Olivehurst, according to sheriff’s officials. The man was alert and cooperating with rescue teams.

Rescue crews spent three hours on scene working to free the man. He was safely extracted around 8:10 p.m.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. shut off the power in the area as crews worked to free the man. Outages spread into nearby Plumas Lake, leaving more than 4,500 people without power. Arboga Road was shut down in both directions as the rescue teams worked.

The man was taken to a local hospital via ambulance.
