Update: Arden power outage blamed on faulty cable, SMUD says. Most customers restored
A power outage affected about 3,500 SMUD customers in the Arden Arcade area Tuesday, with most of those customers having their power restored within about an hour.
The utility provider tweeted that the outage was reported at 11:51 a.m. The cause was determined to be a faulty underground cable, and most of the affected customers were rerouted to other circuits on the grid, SMUD said in an update just after 1 p.m.
SMUD says about 137 customers will remain without power until the cable problem is fixed.
The map earlier had showed about 3,550 Arden Arcade customers without power due to the unplanned outage as of noon. Nearly 100 other customers, west of Interstate 80 in North Sacramento, were also without power due to planned maintenance.
