Sheriff’s detectives investigating deadly car-to-car shooting in Rancho Cordova

Sacramento County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a homicide after a car-to-car shooting left one man dead along Rancho Cordova’s main thoroughfare early Wednesday morning.

The sheriff’s dispatch center was notified by the California Highway Patrol of a shooting near Sunrise Boulevard and Highway 50 about 12:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the scene and located a male passenger who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the news release said. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies “determined an unknown suspect in a vehicle shot into another vehicle,” the news release said.

Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene, closing Sunrise and some Highway 50 ramps in the early morning hours. All roadways have since reopened.

No arrests have been made, and detectives are continuing to obtain witness statements to get a description of the suspect vehicle, according to the news release.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
