Teen presumed dead in apparent Cosumnes River drowning, El Dorado sheriff says

A 16-year-old El Dorado County boy is presumed dead, possibly having drowned over the weekend in the north fork of the Cosumnes River, authorities said.

Deputies were called regarding a potential drowning after receiving reports that the teen, identified as Brian Trevisan-Maxey, had been walking with friends Friday near the river, “with Brian at the rear of the group” before he went missing, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a news release.

“At one point, the group noticed Brian was no longer behind them,” the news release said. “After searching the area, the group called 911.”

Search and rescue efforts and the Sheriff’s Office dive team searched the area and the waterway. The search continued through Tuesday, when authorities discovered a body in the water.

Sheriff’s personnel have been unable to recover the body so far due to “extremely fast moving water” at a depth of about 25 feet.

“Although positive identification has not been completed, it is believed to be Brian,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

No other details were released Wednesday, and the family has requested privacy at this time.
