It’s hot. You can go to the beach in Sacramento, but not if you want to kayak

High temperatures are expected to reach into the upper 90s in Sacramento on Friday, and they’ll likely be in the mid-90s Saturday as a brief heat wave hits the Central Valley. The good news for people looking to beat the heat: Sacramento County beaches are open, but some activities are still banned because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The county reopened beaches and restarted boating on Sacramento’s rivers in its May 1 revision of a stay-at-home order. Sand Cove Park, Paradise Beach, Tiscornia Beach and others all figure to host people looking to get out of the house and beat the heat.

The Sacramento County Public Information Office said in an email park rangers will be out to monitor and enforce social distancing at the parks.

While boats will be able to access the river, rafting and kayaking are not permitted. The county said that could change as rules regarding the stay-at-home order are modified.

“Public Health is working with raft/kayak rental companies on regulations that allow for social distancing while engaged in these activities,” the county said.
