Macy’s, Apple join other Arden Fair Mall stores now open for curbside pickup purchases

Two major retailers in the Arden Fair Mall - Macy’s and the Apple store - have now reopened for curbside service, but officials say they still have no word on whether the JC Penney bankruptcy filing last week will affect the mall’s Penney store.

Macy’s, Apple and Coach all opened for curbside pickup at 11 a.m. Monday, officials said, joining a handful of other stores that previously had begun operating for curbside business.

“Curbside pickup is done in concurrence with guidance from state and county health officials,” the mall said in a statement. “Dedicated curbside pickup parking is clearly marked and color-coded to facilitate the delivery of merchandise to guests.

“Signage has been placed at all parking lot entrances directing guests to the curbside pickup location. Macy’s curbside pickup will be conducted outside their entrance, and hours may vary from Arden Fair hours. Guests must practice social distancing and remain inside their vehicle while their order is brought to them.”

The mall itself remains closed to the public.

Arden Fair already has suffered a major loss because of the coronavirus pandemic, with owner Mark Friedman announcing earlier this month that the Nordstrom store there is not reopening, a loss of roughly 375 jobs.

Mall spokesman Nathan Spradlin said officials have not received any notice from JC Penney about whether the store there will reopen and “so our expectation is they will start curbside pickup in the near future, as well.”

JC Penney has said it will close 200 stores this year, but has not said which ones will be affected.
