Pedestrian struck, killed crossing Fair Oaks Boulevard at night, CHP says

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car Sunday night in Fair Oaks, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the area of eastbound Fair Oaks Boulevard and New York Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, learning that a pedestrian had been struck by a Ford Fusion, CHP’s North Sacramento office said Tuesday in a news release.

The victim, a 59-year-old Fair Oaks man, was transported by ambulance to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead early Monday morning, according to the CHP.

The driver, a 43-year-old Sacramento woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. She told officers the pedestrian was walking on a dark stretch of Fair Oaks Boulevard when he was struck, according to the CHP.

The CHP does not suspect the driver was under the influence drugs or alcohol, the news release said. No arrests have been made.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

Anyone who witnessed the fatal crash or has any additional information about the incident is asked to contact CHP’s North Sacramento office at 916-348-2317 or 916-798-0975.
