Three-alarm apartment fire near Cal Expo damages 16 units overnight, Sacramento FD says

The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a large, three-alarm fire at a pair of apartment buildings early Tuesday morning.

The blaze “heavily damaged” 16 total apartment units in the 1400 block of Exposition Boulevard, the Fire Department said in a tweet.

“Amazingly, no one was injured in this 3 Alarm blaze which is a testament to working smoke detectors,” the department tweeted.

The fire was first reported shortly after 2:15 a.m. as a two-alarm fire burning four apartment units, then upgraded to a three-alarm blaze involving eight damaged units as of an hour later, with the fire contained. By an 8:15 a.m. update, the Fire Department tweeted that 16 total units were damaged.

The American Red Cross, which has an office one block away from the apartments on Exposition Boulevard, is helping displace residents from the fire.

Fire officials reminded residents to ensure their smoke detectors are working.

“It can save your life,” the Fire Department tweeted.
