Two-alarm fire at old Sacramento RT building near Arden Way contained with no injuries

The Sacramento Fire Department contained a large, two-alarm fire Wednesday morning at a vacant building in north Sacramento.

Firefighters worked for more than an hour to extinguish the structure fire in the 2100 block of Evergreen Street, just south of Arden Way and adjacent to the Royal Oaks light rail station, the Fire Department tweeted shortly after 6 a.m.

Sacramento Regional Transit in a tweet said the light rail’s Blue Line service was disrupted due to the fire, with a bus bridge in place between the Swanston and Alkali Flats stations. The bridge has since been lifted.

The Fire Department in a later tweet identified the building as an old SacRT building no longer in use, which “was known by SFD as a dangerous structure.”

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Video posted by the Fire Department shows big, dark plumes of smoke pouring out of the roof of a single-story facility.

Smoke from the fire was visible in the Arden area, from the Capital City Freeway and Interstate 80, Caltrans traffic cameras show.
