Kudos to: San Juan High School students

Accomplishment: Built more than 20 Little Free Libraries for Citrus Heights neighborhoods

Details: The libraries look like large bird houses. They work on the theory that users take one book and leave another. The students worked in partnership with the Citrus Heights History and Arts Commission and Citrus Heights Rotary Club.

Kudos to: ACE summer camp students

Accomplishment: To build benches for Sept. 11 memorial at Cal Expo

Details: The 27 high school seniors in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering Mentor Program will design and build wooden benches for the memorial. The benches will be built at Cosumnes River College and taken to Cal Expo for the State Fair.

Kudos to: Sacramento State grounds crews

Accomplishment: The university is named a Tree Campus USA

Details: The campus received the accolade from the Arbor Day Foundation for the third consecutive year. Sacramento State has 3,500 shade trees, which include 400 varieties.
