Sacramento grass fire closes Highway 50 ramp to Capital City Freeway, authorities say
A vegetation fire near Highway 50 in Sacramento blew some smoke onto the freeway Wednesday morning and grew to about 1 acre before being extinguished, authorities said.
Crews mopped up a fire that was burning just north of Highway 50 near the junction to Highway 99 and the Capital City Freeway, impacting traffic, the Sacramento Fire Department said in tweets.
The connector ramp from eastbound Highway 50 to northbound Capital City Freeway was closed for close to an hour and repoened as of 10 a.m. Caltrans said in a tweet. All other ramps at the junction remained open.
The Fire Department said in a tweet about 8:45 a.m. that traffic could be “severely impacted” by smoke in the area, but smoke appeared to stop blowing onto Highway 50 shortly after 9 a.m., Caltrans traffic cameras showed.
The fire comes amid a red flag warning from the National Weather Service throughout most of the Sacramento Valley. The city of Sacramento forecast calls for gusts near 30 mph and an afternoon high of 91 degrees.
