Three Sacramento Police officers save choking infant in south Sacramento
A child was saved by three Sacramento police officers who rescued him from choking Monday, a news release from the police department said.
Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a home in south Sacramento after receiving reports of an unresponsive infant who had been swimming in a kiddie pool, authorities said. Body camera footage, which was graphic, showed the child’s dramatic rescue and the officers’ quick and focused actions that saved his life.
The officers — identified as Officers Chad Geer, Nick Tayler and Colby Anderson — began life-saving procedures as soon as they arrived, eventually removing a piece of candy that was lodged in the infant’s mouth.
“C’mon, buddy, c’mon,” one of the officers says as another holds the child in the proper position to dislodge the object. “He’s breathing, he’s breathing,” another officer says as they continued to help the child amid loved ones’ frantic reactions.
“Cough it up, bud,” the officer says as he gently pats the child’s back and the boy begins crying and coughing. “Good job, c’mon, son,” the officer says to coax him as the video shows Sacramento Fire Department paramedics taking over.
The boy was transported to a hospital and the department said he is expected to make a full recovery.
