Flames from a wind-whipped grass fire Monday spread to a nearby housing complex in Arden Arcade and destroyed four homes and damaged two others, fire officials said.

About 11:15 a.m. Monday, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District announced on its Twitter account that firefighters were battling the grass fire that spread to the housing complex near Wyda Way and Wright Street.

Aerial photos from a Fire District helicopter show what appeared to be a vacant lot that was blackened and charred after the flames reached the nearby homes.

About 12:45 p.m., fire officials said the wind-driven grass fire spread to the complex. Four townhomes were destroyed and two others were damaged. Officials said no injuries had been reported.

A fire investigator was at the scene, but it was unclear whether the investigator had determined the cause or origin of the fire.
