Missing Northern California man, 68, found dead in water at Oroville forebay

A 68-year-old Gridley man reported missing last Thursday was found dead Sunday in the water at the Forebay Aquatic Center in Oroville, authorities said.

The Gridley Police Department said family members positively identified the body of Robert Voss at the scene.

It was a family member who located Voss’ body “floating in the water” just off the shoreline at Forebay and then notified state parks officers, who helped recover the body, the Gridley Police Department said in a news release.

The case remains active and Voss’ cause of death is unknown pending a coroner’s report, police said.

Voss left his home around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, with family members reporting to police later that night he’d left to run errands and never returned, the news release said.

Voss’ children located their father’s vehicle, a silver Honda Civic, near Forebay Aquatic Center in Oroville around 12:05 a.m. Friday. A search continued Friday, including a helicopter and boats, until the initial effort was suspended that night.
