Three struck by car in south Sacramento while honoring friend killed on same street

Three people were struck Sunday in south Sacramento while honoring their friend who was killed in a collision in the same place just the day before, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Pedestrians had gathered in the Vineyard area for a vigil at Gerber and Elk Grove Florin roads — the place where their friend Derrick Price, 30, had been struck and killed by a car on his motorcycle on Saturday, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Attendees were honoring Price’s memory when a passing vehicle who had slowed to watch the vigil struck another vehicle, causing it to swerved into the memorial. Three participants in the vigil, all friends of Price, had been struck.

One of the attendees was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries, CHP South Sacramento unit spokesman Officer Jim Young said. The person who was hospitalized is expected to survive, he said.
