Going to the American River for 4th of July weekend? Don’t bring alcohol, officials say
Fourth of July revelers will have to stay sober on the American River this weekend.
Alcohol will be banned Friday through Sunday along the waterway between Hazel and Watt avenues, Sacramento County parks officials said.
Sacramento’s annual Rafting Gone Wild event prompted a similar alcohol ban in June — though not everyone followed the rules. The raucous day saw an estimated 50 citations for alcohol, two misdemeanor arrests and one felony arrest, according to Ken Casparis, a spokesperson for Sacramento County.
Officials also cautioned river goers to practice social distancing during July 4 festivities.
