3 more positive coronavirus infections at U.S. Postal Service facility in West Sacramento

The U.S. Postal Service is in the process of reaching out to local public health officials after another employee tested positive for coronavirus at the West Sacramento plant. The facility has had three employees test positive for the virus since July 20.

Due to privacy concerns, the Postal Service was unable to provide any information about the employees or their current conditions. The service continues to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines emphasizing employee health and safety, Postal Service officials said.

“We believe the risk is low for employees who work at the Sacramento Plant but we will keep our employees apprised as new information and guidance becomes available,” Postal Service spokeswoman Meiko Patton said in an email.

Operations at the sprawling facility, which is a hub for the capital region’s mail, have not been affected and the Postal Service will enhance disinfecting practices, she said.

The CDC and the World Health Organization have both stated that there is currently no evidence that the virus can spread through mail or packages.

The West Sacramento branch had an outbreak earlier in July, when seven workers tested positive for coronavirus.
