Here are the fastest-selling new and used cars in Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto

Want to buy a new Kia Telluride? Good luck. They’re flying off dealership lots.

In Sacramento, the vehicle sells in an average of only 11. 9 days, a new study found.

Overall, the average new car remains on a lot in the Sacramento metropolitan area, which includes Stockton and Modesto, for 76.7 days before it’s purchased, according to the latest iSeeCars analysis.

iSeeCars analyzed 9 million recent new and used car sales across the United States to determine which vehicles are most quickly sold from dealer lots.

The average used car, meanwhile, takes 45.3 days to sell. However, there are certain new cars that sell far quicker than that average, the study showed.

There are many reasons a vehicle flies off a dealer’s lot, including buzz surrounding a new model, a vehicle’s popularity with consumers, or production shutdowns in the wake of the pandemic, the study concluded.

The top 5 fastest-selling new cars in the Sacramento metropolitan area are:

  • Kia Telluride (11.9 days on a dealer lot)

  • Ford Escape Hybrid (27.6 days)

  • Toyota RAV4 Hybrd (32.5 days)

  • Nissan Sentra (32.6 days)

  • Hyundai Palisade (33.6 days)

The top 5 fastest-selling used cars are:

  • Lexus GX 460 (16.7 days)

  • Volkswagen Atlas (25.1 days)

  • BMW 4 Series (26.8 days)

  • Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (27.5 days)

  • Audi Q5 (28 days)

SUVs took up most of the spots on the national top 10 fastest-selling list. Three Tesla models — led by the Model 3 —were among the fastest-selling used cars in the United States, according the analysis from iSeeCars.com.

Another finding: The days it takes to sell a new car increased by 67.3 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Used cars increased by 37.5 percent. From March through June 2020, iSeeCars.com found that overall the average new car took 96.9 days to sell compared to 57.8 days before the coronavirus pandemic, November 2019 through February 2020. For used cars, the average time to sell was 68.9 days compared to 50.1 days, pre-COVID-19.

“The effective demand for these vehicles has slowed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic due to lockdowns and downturns in the economy, but the change was much more dramatic for new vehicles than for used vehicles,” said Phong Ly, chief executive officer of iSeeCars.com.

While both new and used vehicles are taking longer to sell, certain vehicles sell much quicker than average.

“Many of these fastest-selling vehicles are popular cars that are hard to find for reasons such as the effect of the pandemic on supply chains, they were produced in limited quantities, or that they are new models that aren’t yet abundant in the used car marketplace,” Ly said in a news release.

The fastest-selling new vehicle in the United States is the Chevrolet Trailblazer (19 days), which is a brand new model that debuted in spring 2020. The popular vehicle has an attractive starting price of under $20,000, the study said. The Trailblazer doubled its sales goals, making it hard to find at dealerships.

Two Kia models earned the second and third spots for fastest-selling new vehicle in the nation: the Telluride and the Seltos, respectively.
