California Highway Patrol helicopter aids in two rescues, including one from an angry cow
The California Highway Patrol rescued an elderly couple Sunday morning after they were injured in Lynch Canyon Regional Park. The couple was chased by a cow who was with her calf and felt threatened by the people, authorities said.
The couple fell and were injured while being chased. The CHP helicopter H-32 responded with firefighters and paramedics from Solano County, according to a Facebook post by CHP’s Golden Gate Division Air Operations.
The helicopter used its siren to move the cow, who was a few feet from the injured hikers. The couple was then hoisted, one at a time, 75 feet up into the helicopter.
The couple was flown to paramedics waiting at the trailhead and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Later in the evening, the same helicopter aided in the rescue of two 18-year-old women who were injured while jumping into Lake Berryessa, according to a CHP Facebook post.
The CHP responded alongside the Napa County and Pope Valley Volunteer fire departments and paramedics from Napa County. One woman became unconscious during the accident and bystanders pulled both women from the water to the shore.
One was flown to a Santa Rosa hospital for treatment and the other was driven to a Vacaville hospital.
