Man, woman and dog killed, child hospitalized in Highway 65 crash near Roseville

Two people and a dog died and a 12-year-old child was hospitalized following a Monday night crash on Highway 65 in the Roseville area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Based on witness reports, authorities said a 2001 Ford Expedition traveling about 70 mph in the middle northbound lane swerved left into the center divide area near the Stanford Ranch/Galleria Boulevard exit, leading the SUV to overturn onto its roof shortly before 10:30 p.m., according to a news release from CHP’s Auburn office.

An adult male driver and a woman in the front passenger seat, neither of whom were wearing seat belts, succumbed to injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. A dog was also ejected from the SUV during the collision and died.

A 12-year-old girl, the only occupant of the vehicle wearing a seat belt, suffered injuries described as “moderate” and was transported by ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center, authorities aid.

The CHP said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.

According to the news release, the driver was a 41-year-old Elverta man, the woman was a 43-year-old Oroville resident and the injured 12-year-old girl was also an Elverta resident. None were identified by name; identification of the deceased victims will be handled by the Placer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

All lanes of Highway 65 reopened Tuesday morning.
