Roughly 5,000 customers lose power in downtown Sacramento in SMUD outage

More than 5,200 customers in downtown Sacramento were without power Monday afternoon after an unplanned outage interrupted service, according to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

The outage first occurred around 3:30 p.m. and affected 5,284 homes and businesses in the downtown Sacramento area, according to the SMUD outage map. Power for some customers was restored at 4:30 p.m.

The outage was not part of any scheduled rolling blackout or public safety power shutoffs imposed by Pacific Gas and Electric in response to weather conditions that increase fire danger.
