Two dead after head-on car crash on Old River Road in West Sacramento

Roadway fatality

Two West Sacramento residents died and one was injured after a vehicle collision on Old River Road in West Sacramento on Wednesday evening, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol.

A driver in a 2016 Ford Fusion was driving northbound at a high rate of speed before County Road 124 when he is reported to have swerved for an unknown reason into the southbound lane of traffic. The vehicle hit a southbound 2017 Ford F-150 head-on.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered fatal injuries, with one declared dead at the scene and the other dying after being transported to UC Davis Medical Center by helicopter, the CHP said. The passenger in the truck suffered moderate injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center by ambulance.

Prior to the accident, the driver of the Fusion was reported to be driving recklessly at high speeds and passing unsafely.

CHP closed the road for two hours to examine the scene and investigate. Weather was not a factor in the collision and the cause is being investigated by the Woodland Area CHP Office.
