Vehicle pulled from edge of I-5 bridge north of Sacramento after crash, CHP says
A vehicle was pulled from the railing on the Interstate 5 bridge crossing the Sacramento River after a crash Friday afternoon on the Sacramento-Yolo county line, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Southbound I-5 was bridge closed for about 30 minutes from County Road 22 (Old River Road) to the county line, just west of Sacramento International Airport, Caltrans said. It reopened at 4:15 p.m., with CHP saying the vehicles were taken off of the bridge. At one point, CHP incident logs said a vehicle was “dangling over the railing.”
The CHP told a Bee journalist on scene that three cars were involved in the crash and that the car had not hung off the 52½-foot-high Vietnam Servicemen Memorial Bridge.
The crash reported about 3:30 p.m., according to the incident logs. It was unclear whether anyone was seriously injured in the crash, but an ambulance helicopter had been called.
No further information was immediately available.
