Child hospitalized with burn injuries in south Sacramento house fire, officials say

A child suffered moderate burn injuries Tuesday evening after a fire burned through a south Sacramento home and caused extensive damage, fire officials said.

Capt. Dave Lauchner, a spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department, said it was not immediately clear how the child was injured in the fire. He said the child had already been burned when firefighters arrived.

Lauchner said the child suffered moderate burns and was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. There was no further information available about the child.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m. at the house in the 7400 block of East Parkway, a few blocks south of Florin Road and just west of Highway 99. All residents made it out of the house when firefighters arrived.

Lauchner said the fire caused extensive damage to the house, but firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby homes. He said investigators had not determined the cause of the fire.
