Sacramento firefighters battling 2-alarm fire burning along American River Parkway
Sacramento firefighters on Thursday evening were tackling a two-alarm vegetation fire that had burned 50 acres along the American River Parkway.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the Sacramento Fire Department announced its crews had responded to the vegetation fire burning in the lower American River Parkway, east of Discovery Park.
Firefighters were attacking flames burning in very dry and dense vegetation with a moderate rate of spread, the Fire Department said in updates on social media.
About 5:45 p.m., the Fire Department said it had requested additional resources to put out the fire with help from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, including an aircraft and a bulldozer.
No injuries were reported. The flames at one point threatened one structure, but the structure remained intact because of previous efforts to create defensible space around it, according to the Fire Department.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the fire had grown to 50 acres and firefighters had about 10% of the fire contained.
