Power restored in downtown Sacramento after pole near Governor’s Mansion malfunctions

About 1,000 homes and businesses in downtown Sacramento lost power Friday morning, around the same time firefighters were responding to a power pole fire near the Governor’s Mansion.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District officials reported just over 1,000 customers lost power shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to the utility’s online outage map.

Also around 10:30 a.m., Sacramento Fire Department personnel were monitoring a power pole that was partially on fire in the alley behind the historic mansion at 16th and H streets.

SMUD restored power downtown by 11:45 a.m., the outage map showed.

Gov. Gavin Newsom does not live in the mansion.
