Hot streak continues

Triple-digit weather is forecast again for Sacramento. The high temperature is expected to reach 101 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. The weekend weather is expected to provide some relief with highs reaching the low- to mid-90s.

Torch run, opening of Special Olympics

Area agencies will take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, which will culminate about 10:30 a.m. at the state Capitol. The opening ceremonies for the 2015 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games begins at 7 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Stadium at UC Davis. The event will feature more than 650 athletes competing Saturday and Sunday. Go to www.sonc.org/sports/summer-games for details.

Friday Night Out in Rancho Cordova

The Rancho Cordova Police Activities League and Problem Oriented Policing officers will host a Friday Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hagan Community Park, 2197 Chase Drive. The community event features food, fun and games.

Intermittent I-80 closures in Fairfield

Attention travelers to the Bay Area: The state Department of Transportation reports that there will be intermittent closures on westbound Interstate 80 between the westbound I-80 Cordelia truck scales and the Green Valley Road in Fairfield from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. The California Highway Patrol will assist in directing traffic. Closures will occur in 5-to-10 minute intervals, according to Caltrans.

  • The Concerts in the Park series continues at Cesar Chavez Plaza, 901 I St., Sacramento. Groups scheduled to perform during the free event from 5 to 9 p.m. are Slaves, A Lot Like Birds, Tell the Wolves, We Went to the Moon and Z Rokk.
  • The Summer Carnival at Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights begins a three-day run from 3 to 10 p.m. The event takes place in the mall’s parking lot along Sunrise Boulevard.
  • The Gold Rush Paper Show features maps, manuscripts, U.S. and world stamps, vintage photographs and more. The free event is scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, 11131 Folsom Blvd., Rancho Cordova.
