Update: Highway 50 fully open in East Sacramento after closure due to spilled manure

Traffic Alert

Three lanes of westbound Highway 50 in Sacramento were closed for about three hours Friday due to a manure spill.

The two right lanes of traffic were initially closed just east of Stockton Boulevard due to the smelly hazard, Caltrans said in a social media post just before 10 a.m. The middle lane was also closed, Caltrans said around 10:45 a.m.

All lanes reopened shortly after noon, Caltrans live traffic cameras showed. The Stockton Boulevard off-ramp remained open throughout the lane closures.

The California Highway Patrol first received reports about the manure spill around 9 a.m., according to the CHP online activity log.

The incident caused delays, with Caltrans traffic cameras showing lanes gridlocked to at least 65th Street throughout the morning.
