Got an old TV, PC or other e-waste? Here’s how to recycle it today in Sacramento
Don’t let your e-waste go to waste.
Cal Expo, SMUD and other local partners are holding an electronic waste drive Monday afternoon, on National Recycling Day. Businesses and residents can bring e-waste to the Cal Expo main gate between noon and 6 p.m.
Proceeds go to the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps, an education and workforce training program for young adults.
Examples of recyclable e-waste include TVs, computers, circuit boards, hard drives, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, phones, stereo equipment, cables, video game consoles, calculators, toasters, microwaves, phones, digital cameras and more.
Batteries should be removed from all consumer devices.
Numerous items are not permitted, according to a Cal Expo event description:
- Non-electronic waste
- “Techno-trash” (CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, flash drives, etc.)
- Lamps and light bulbs
- Hazardous waste
- Contaminated electronic waste, such as medical equipment
- Large household appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, ovens, etc.
- Furniture
- Cordless power tools
- Vacuums
- Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
- Items containing wood
- Solar panels
- Space heaters
- Radioactive devices
- No bare cathode ray tubes; CRTs must have plastic casing
