20-year-old Olivehurst man killed in high-speed crash and rollover on Highway 70

Roadway fatality

An Olivehurst man was killed in a high-speed, single-vehicle collision Sunday night near Plumas Lake.

A 20-year-old driver of a 2007 Nissan 350Z was traveling at a “high rate of speed” on northbound Highway 70 north of Plumas Arboga Road around 10:30 p.m. when he lost control, sending the Nissan off the roadway where it rolled over multiple times, the California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release.

The driver, partially ejected, suffered fatality injuries. A passenger, a 16-year-old boy from Olivehurst, exited the vehicle on his own and was treated at a hospital for injuries described by the CHP as minor.

“A witness stated the Nissan was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed and nearly collided with the (witness’s) vehicle prior to the collision,” CHP officials wrote.

It’s unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in addition to speed.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts, the CHP collision report indicated.

The driver’s identity will be released by the Yuba County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
