Lincoln motorcyclist killed after hitting signpost on I-80 near Roseville, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A motorcyclist died Thanksgiving morning after losing control and hitting a signpost on an Interstate 80 off-ramp near Roseville.

Officers responded around 11:20 a.m. Thursday to a solo motorcycle crash on eastbound I-80 near Riverside Avenue, the California Highway Patrol’s Auburn office said in a news release.

Witnesses told authorities that the victim was riding with a group of motorcyclists when, for unknown reasons, he lost control, swerved off the right side of the roadway onto the off-ramp and struck a wooden signpost, according to the CHP news release.

The collision ejected the rider from his motorcycle, a 2008 Yamaha, which authorities said continued on for about 200 feet before coming to rest.

The motorcyclist, described as a 43-year-old Lincoln man, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The victim’s identity will be released by the Placer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

The CHP said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
