Boy, 8, dies in hospital after three-vehicle crash in south Sacramento, CHP says

Roadway fatality

An 8-year-old boy died Tuesday following a weekend crash in south Sacramento that injured five other people.

Authorities responded around 3:45 p.m. Saturday to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Calvine and Power Inn roads, spokesman Officer Mark Leavitt of the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office told The Sacramento Bee in an email Friday.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District in a social media post said fire personnel transported six patients to local hospitals, some with critical injuries. Leavitt said three people suffered major injuries, two were moderately injured and one had minor injuries.

The CHP was notified that one of the victims, an 8-year-old boy, “succumbed to his injuries,” Leavitt said.

The boy, who died Tuesday, had not been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as of Friday.

Leavitt said no arrests were made in the collision, and that none of the involved drivers were suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
