Driver killed after SUV goes airborne near Lincoln, ejecting him in high-speed crash
A driver was killed in a high-speed, single-vehicle crash Tuesday night just outside Lincoln city limits, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Nissan Murano SUV traveling east on Moore Road near Nelson Lane around 9:45 p.m. traveled off the paved roadway, struck an embankment and became airborne, the CHP’s Auburn area office said in a news release.
The vehicle, driven at an “undetermined high rate of speed,” hit the ground and rolled over at least once, coming to rest on its roof, CHP officials wrote.
The driver, the vehicle’s only occupant and identified by the CHP only as a male of unknown age, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, resulting in major injuries. An ambulance transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Placer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, the CHP wrote, and it is unknown pending toxicology results whether drugs or alcohol also played a role.
Moore Road was closed for more than an area near the crash scene, reopening around 11:15 p.m.
