Deadly hit-and-run closes El Camino Avenue and Capital City Freeway ramp in Sacramento
A deadly hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in North Sacramento has closed El Camino Avenue at the Capital City Freeway, authorities said.
Police responded around 2:40 a.m. to an unoccupied vehicle on El Camino Avenue that appeared to have been in a collision, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release.
As officers were responding, they received information that a second vehicle involved in the crash had exited El Camino and came to rest on an embankment near the freeway.
Officers located the second vehicle and its driver, a man, who was pronounced dead at the scene after succumbing to major injuries from the collision, according to the news release.
Police determined the driver of the other involved vehicle, on El Camino Avenue, fled the scene before officers arrived.
The off-ramp from the westbound side of the freeway was closed for several hours as investigators worked the scene.
Police have not given a description of either vehicle.
The deceased victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
