Update: Train moving after blocking morning traffic on busy south Sacramento roadways

Traffic Alert

A train that blocked traffic after coming to an unplanned stop in south Sacramento is on the move, authorities said.

The Sacramento Police Department said just after 7:30 a.m. that a Union Pacific train was stopped near the busy intersection of Elder Creek and Power Inn roads.

“Due to the size of the train, multiple portions of roadway in the area are blocked,” the Police Department said in a tweet.

Police around 9:20 a.m. said the train was moving again, and that road closures would be lifted shortly.

The train delayed traffic along Fruitridge, Elder Creek and Florin roads, all of which the railroad tracks intersect just east of Power Inn Road.

Drivers were asked to use alternate routes.

It was not immediately clear why the train was stopped.
