Deadly house fire in rural Placer County being investigated by sheriff’s detectives

One person died in a house fire Friday morning in rural Placer County, which remains under investigation by fire and law enforcement officials.

Detectives are investigating the cause of a residential fire on Hillsdale Road in Meadow Vista that resulted in one confirmed fatality, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in social media posts.

Responding firefighters rescued a victim from a second-story window of the burning residence, but that victim died from their injuries, the Placer Hills Fire Protection District said in a news release.

Emergency personnel, including crews from the Placer Hills district as well as the Auburn Fire Department, Penryn Fire Protection District and Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer, were first dispatched to the residence around 6:45 a.m.

Firefighters were still knocking down flames about two hours later, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was brought under control by 9:30 a.m., the Placer Hills Fire Protection District said.

A “joint task force” is investigating the cause of the fire, and the Sheriff’s Office is conducting the death investigation, the fire district said.
