Brother of slain Sacramento police officer announces bid for Placer County Sheriff

Breaking News

Placer County residents can expect a contested election for sheriff this summer with a second veteran officer announcing a plan to run for office.

Brandon Bean, a Placer County sheriff’s deputy whose brother was killed in the line of duty as a Sacramento police officer, announced his candidacy Monday. Bean will face Undersheriff Wayne Woo in the June 7 election.

Incumbent Sheriff Devon Bell last month announced he would not seek re-election. Bell has endorsed Woo.

Bean has been a resident of Placer County for 42 years, according to his campaign website. He is a graduate of Colfax High School and served as an officer in the Roseville Police Department, working on the SWAT team. He later transferred to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office where he worked on the special enforcement team.

He also served in Placer County corrections facility and a narcotics task force. He currently works as an administrative sergeant for the sheriff’s office.

Bean is the younger brother of Bill Bean Jr., a Sacramento Police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1999.

“Brandon, supported by his family and his friends, is seeking to serve his community by seeking the Office of Sheriff,” this campaign website said. “In this position Brandon can bring his energy and passion for public service along with experience to protect the county that has raised him, and he and his family have always called home.”
