Inderkum basketball player identified as pedestrian killed by vehicle in Rocklin

Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Rocklin has been identified by school officials as a senior and basketball player at Inderkum High School.

Rocklin police said the collision happened about 8:30 p.m. on Lonetree Boulevard near the Blue Oaks Town Center shopping area, where a man “walking in the roadway” was struck, later succumbing to his injuries at a hospital.

“We are sad to report the pedestrian was pronounced deceased by Sutter Roseville Medical Center as a result of his injuries,” police said on Facebook.

District officials with Natomas Unified and Rocklin Unified said that Anthony Williams, a member of the Inderkum boys basketball team and Rocklin Unified student from elementary school through his junior year of high school, died in an accident over the weekend.

“Devastated by the loss of our family Anthony Williams,” the Inderkum boys basketball program wrote in an Instagram post, along with a picture of a smiling Williams.

Williams attended Whitney High School in Rocklin for three years, where he also played basketball.

“With a heavy heart, the Rocklin Unified School District is mourning the loss of a former student, Anthony Williams, who was involved in a tragic accident over the weekend,” the district said in a Sunday statement. “While he may have attended a different school for his senior year, Anthony positively impacted many RUSD students and staff members.”

Inderkum and Rocklin Unified are making additional grief counseling services available this week for students and staff.

Police said the driver involved in Saturday’s fatal crash is cooperating with the investigation.
