About 24 homes near Barbera Way in Rancho Cordova, California, were evacuated for about an hour on Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022, after a gas leak at a construction site.

A gas leak in a Rancho Cordova neighborhood led to the brief evacuation of about two dozen homes Wednesday morning, fire authorities said.

Crews responded to the area of Barbera Way at about 8:45 a.m., where a gas line had been broken at a construction site, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said in social media posts.

About 24 homes were evacuated and nearby streets blocked off to traffic, but the gas leak was secured and evacuations lifted around 10 a.m., Metro Fire said in an update.

Crews “clamped” the gas line and mitigated the leak before Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crews repaired it, according to Metro Fire.

No injuries were reported.
