Former Modesto home of Scott and Laci Peterson emerges on the market for $460,000
The former Modesto home of Scott and Laci Peterson hit the market Wednesday for $459,888.
The couple lived in the house at 523 Covena Ave. when, prosecutors say, Scott Peterson killed his wife and their unborn son on or just before Christmas Eve in 2002. Defense attorneys have suggested that burglars operating in the area at the time or others were responsible. Scott Peterson was convicted in the murders and sentenced to death.
The murder case has been back in the news recently. The California Supreme Court overturned Scott Peterson’s death sentence in 2020. In a separate proceeding, the case has been returned to San Mateo County court, where it was tried, to determine if Peterson should get a new trial over allegations a juror lied to get on the case. The next hearing in that matter is set for June.
There is no mention of the infamous case on the property listing. The home last sold in February 2013 for $180,000, according to MLS records. In July 2005, the property was sold for $390,000, according to public records.
The home has been refined, remodeled and upgraded since images of the property emerged after the killings.
“If fun in the sun and entertaining poolside are on your list of must-haves, this is the home you’ve been looking for,” according to the listing, which notes the property is “move-in ready.”
Listing agent Cindy Hackett of Open House Real Estate and the sellers declined to comment on the listing.
Located in the La Loma neighborhood, the house spans 1,770 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The home features stone counter tops and tile back splashes in a remodeled kitchen with a six-burner gas stove and built-in wine rack.
In the front, there’s a secluded courtyard with flowers, grass and bushes. In the backyard, there’s a pool “and just around the corner is the relaxing hot tub for soaking and enjoying star-lit nights,” the listing states.
This home was upgraded to solar panels, which are fully owned. The interior was recently painted in neutral colors.
