Sacramento light rail train wheels go off the track, block traffic downtown intersection

Breaking News

A light rail train blocked traffic at a downtown Sacramento intersection Friday after its wheels came off the track, authorities said.

The Sacramento Regional Transit light rail train was blocking traffic on 8th and K Streets after its wheels came off the track for an unknown reason, said RT spokeswoman Jessica Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said no injuries were reported, but it was unclear whether there were any passengers on board when the train derailed. RT officials put in place a bus bridge in downtown Sacramento: the Blue Line from 13th Street to Arden Del Paso and Gold Line from 13th Street to Sac Valley.

The Sacramento Police Department announced on social media that motorists should expect traffic delays in the area; they suggested finding alternate routes through downtown. It was unclear when the intersection will be cleared.
