Interactive graph shows Sacramento museum and park foot traffic after latest COVID surge
Sacramento area museums and parks saw an uptick in foot traffic in March relative to the month before, according to points of interest data.
Tourist sites in Sacramento first saw a steep decline in foot traffic in January, which continued to dip in February by 5%, according to data collecting service Safe Graph. But from February to March, foot traffic at these sites went up by 19 percentage points.
Tourist attractions include museums, nature parks, historical sites, zoos, and botanical gardens, according to the visualization. A visit is defined as staying at the location for more than four minutes.

Some examples of tourist attractions in California’s capital include the California State Railroad Museum, the Crocker Art Museum and the California State Capitol Museum. All of these sites are family-friendly.
The most recently updated data reflects frequency levels similar to those before the start of the pandemic. In Sacramento, foot traffic is up by 3% compared to January 2020.
Other cities in the area roughly followed the same trend when it comes to foot traffic at tourist attractions — as well as for bar and restaurant frequenting.
After a major dip in the beginning of the year, foot traffic for Sacramento food establishments in March went up by 11 percentage points compared to the month before.
