Bear spotted in tree in California neighborhood is no immediate threat, police say

A black bear was spotted Monday morning in a tree in a residential Northern California neighborhood, police said, but it did not pose any immediate danger.

“Vacaville PD is aware of a male black bear that has been seen in the North Orchard area of Vacaville,” the Vacaville Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Police said the bear was spotted in a tree in the 200 block of North Orchard Avenue, which is near Willis Jepson Middle School. Students were able to safely assemble that morning, authorities said.

“Solano County is a natural habitat for black bears,” the Police Department wrote. “Our current plan is to observe the bear and not take direct action unless he poses a threat.

“Our hope is that he will safely wander back to his home soon.”

Police said that if the bear approaches, residents should keep doors and windows closed, and bring pets indoors.

If the bear exhibits aggressive behavior, residents should call the Vacaville Police Department immediately.
