Person fatally struck by train near Davis, police say; Amtrak investigating

A pedestrian was killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday morning near Davis, authorities said.

A person walking on tracks near Second Street in Davis, between the Sacramento and Davis stations, around 7:30 a.m. when they were fatally struck, Davis Police Department spokesman Lt. Ilway Bezuglov said.

“Almost immediately, Amtrak police took over the investigation,” Bezuglov said. He said Davis police assisted at the scene but are not involved in investigating.

Coast Starlight Train 11 was stopped south of Sacramento “due to a trespasser incident,” Amtrak officials wrote in service alert messages beginning around 7:35 a.m.

The train, which departed from Seattle on Monday, was back on the move shortly before 10 a.m. and is running nearly 3 hours behind schedule, according to Amtrak rider alerts.

Other Amtrak trains, including the Capitol Corridor, faced shorter delays as Amtrak used bus bridges to bypass the stopped train, according to rider alert messages.
