Big Day of Giving: Latest fundraising totals for Sacramento nonprofits aiming for record drive
Big Day of Giving 2022 is underway, and organizers are hoping to break fundraising records for Sacramento-area charities and nonprofit groups for the fourth year in a row.
Hosted by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, the 24-hour charity drive now in its 10th year aims to grow local philanthropy and shed light on lesser-known agencies in the area. A record-breaking total of 719 organizations are participating this year.
As of 7 p.m. Thursday, donors had poured in nearly $11.1 million to 705 participating nonprofits, according to the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which organizes the event. The fundraising runs through midnight with groups having until noon Friday to report Thursday’s donations given outside the Big Day of Giving website.
The drive also organizes volunteer work and, as of 7 p.m., 1,027 volunteers have pledged to give 12,180 hours of work across the four-county capital region.
Last year, nearly 65,000 donations were given totaling $13.3 million, and 1,500 volunteers pledged nearly 70,000 hours of their time to the nonprofits. That surpassed the 2020 total of $11.9 million and eclipsed the 2019 total of $8.4 million — both record-setting years, as well.
